LINDA JONES-BELL to run for Orange City Council East Ward

Orange community leader and senior citizen activist Linda Jones-Bell has announced her
candidacy for the Orange City Council following a successful fundraiser on Saturday, March
6th at J & A’s Sports Bar in Orange.

Ms. Jones-Bell is running on a public safety platform that includes working with the Orange
Police to crack down on the flagrant drug sales in and around senior buildings and creating a
neighborhood watch program. She is pledged to fight to lower property taxes by reassessing
Orange’s homes and bringing in new taxpaying businesses.

She will also focus on providing a mental health wellness program for seniors, working with
the Orange Housing Authority to beautify and redevelop Parrow St., provide career
workshops run by community members for young and old, and to create a community
business to enable residents to earn extra money and take pride in a business of which they
are part owners.  She pledges to work with all political factions to end the infighting and petty
bickering on the City Council.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

Linda Jones-Bell brought seniors together for last summer’s Community Block Party to unite
residents of Thomas Blvd. to stand against drug dealing and other illicit behaviors that prey
on the community. She recently brought Community Food Bank of NJ to Orange Senior
Buildings to start eligible seniors on program of monthly food deliveries. She is Treasurer for
the Senior Advocacy Group (SAG) that co-sponsors the annual luncheon for seniors of
Orange and President of the Washington Manor Resident Association where she lives.

Ms. Jones-Bell is also a member of Orange’s Cultural Affairs Task Force and a member of
the 2010 Census Committee working to get Orange its fair share of federal aid. She serves
as the
Democratic District Leader of the East Ward’s 1st District and Secretary of the Orange
Democratic Committee. Linda is a graduate of Rutgers University, where she was a
psych/social major, a certified teacher who is working toward a graduate degree, and a
paraprofessional in special education at the Rosa Parks School.

Linda Jones Bell stated, “The East Ward has been underrepresented at Tenant Association
and Council meetings. I will be a Councilwoman who listens to neighborhood residents and
fights for what the community wants and needs most.  I stand for a more culturally diverse
depiction of our community that highlights our achievements and abilities.

Most importantly, I will be a strong advocate for residents of the East Ward. We must hold
one another up. It is the little “i” and the big “WE” that will make a difference in our abilities to
put Orange back on track.”
